Dysport treatments for jaw clenching

Treat jaw clenching and pain

Dysport is used to treat TMJ (Temporo-mandibular joint) disorder and associated jaw tension and pain. When this is injected into the facial muscles afflicted with soreness and discomfort, it relieves TMJ for many patients. Many patients encounter a sense of pressure headache. This injection helps in removing it and making the patient feel more comfortable and relaxed.

When the joints become displaced or are overworked through excessive teeth grinding, patients may suffer from severe headaches and sharp pain in the jaw. Dysport helps in relieving the jaw tension by making the muscles unable to engage in the jaw’s powerful movement, which is the primary reason for the headache and spasm of the joint.

This treatment is usually quick, straightforward, and is the most effective one. The good news is that most of the patients who undergo this treatment usually experience the improvement within 2 to 3 days of their first treatment but note that the relief can take up to two weeks for the full effect.

What is Dysport?

Dysport is a prescription injection administered by a licensed healthcare professional to treat moderate to severe frown lines. Medically, it’s a botulinum neurotoxin (abobotulinumtoxinA), an acetylcholine release inhibitor and a neuromuscular blocking agent. It temporarily prevents specific muscle movements that cause frown lines

What is the difference between Dysport and Botox?

Dysport® and Botox are both made from botulinum toxin type A. All botulinum toxins have the same mechanism of action: blocking the release of acetylcholine (ACh) and preventing the muscles from contracting to maintain the aesthetic effect. However, the dose of Dysport is not the same as the dose of any other botulinum toxin product and cannot be compared to the dosage of any other botulinum toxin product that you may have previously used

Possible Side Effects

It is not unusual to experience some mild side effects following anti-wrinkle injections.

  • You may experience a mild headache after treatment.
  • Tenderness and bruising may also appear at the injection site.

Treatment Duration and Follow-up

We recommend booking a follow up appointment 2 weeks after your treatment. This enables us to review your results. Ant-wrinkle treatment with Dysport can last beyond 4 months before re-treatment is required to maintain the results.

Dermal Fillers

Soften lines, smooth your skin, plump your lips and create full cheeks with the help of our experienced team at Fendalton Dental.

Dermal fillers are a cosmetic injectable treatment that plumps the skin using hyaluronic acid. Safe, easy to get and long lasting, you will feel and look instantly years younger.

Fillers are great for treating signs of aging in your:

  • Cheeks
  • Lips
  • Corner of mouth
  • Jawline
  • Marionette Lines (the facial folds between the corners of your mouth and chin)
  • Nasolabial folds (the lines between the bottom of the nose and corners of the mouth)

When can I see the definitive results of TEOSYAL® Hyaluronic acid dermal fillers? How long do they last?
The results are seen immediately after the treatment, although this gradually improves over the course of the following 2–4 weeks. Hyaluronic acid dermal filler treatments are not permanent and usually last up to 22 months. Nevertheless, the average duration of treatment depends on several factors including your skin type, the severity of the wrinkle/fold to be corrected, and the type of injection and the volume of product injected.

What is the difference between TEOSYAL® and other hyaluronic acid dermal fillers?
The TEOSYAL® dermal filler line is an effective, safe way to replace your skin’s lost hyaluronic acid, bringing back its volume and smoothing away facial wrinkles and folds. TEOSYAL RHA® dermal fillers differ from traditional hyaluronic fillers as they are able to recoil and spring back to their original shape (what we call resilience) after being altered, stretched, bent or compressed. Resilience is an important quality for fillers placed in dynamic areas of the face such as the cheeks, around the eyes, and around the mouth. This resilience not only provides a more natural result as your face moves, the hyaluronic acid also takes longer to degrade, providing long lasting results.

What is the difference between hyaluronic acid dermal fillers and botulinum toxin?
Hyaluronic acid dermal fillers and botulinum toxin are both used to treat wrinkles and are injected into the skin using needles. However, their mode of action is completely different. Botulinum toxin reduces muscle activity that causes lines and wrinkles, whereas hyaluronic acid dermal fillers restore the volume to your face that has been lost due to the ageing process.

Microneedling

Roll back the years for smoother, firmer skin.

Targetting scars, wrinkles, and large pores, microneedling generates new collagen and skin tissue for smoother, firmer, more toned skin.

During the procedure, your clinical provider makes small pricks under the skin with a pen-like tool. The pinpricks are so small that you likely won’t notice them after the procedure. Your clinical provider will move the tool evenly across your skin so that the new skin that rejuvenates will be even, too.

Microneedling can help reduce:

  • Acne scars
  • Age spots (also called “sun spots”)
  • Fine lines and wrinkles
  • Large pores
  • Other types of scars
  • Reduced skin elasticity
  • Uneven skin tone

Microneedling treatments are safe and rejuvenating. Our trained clinicians will ensure you are comfortable and well cared for.

What is Microneedling?

  • Microneedling is a dermaroller procedure that uses small needles to prick the skin.
  • The purpose of treatment is to generate new collagen and skin tissue for smoother, firmer, more toned skin.
  • Microneedling is mostly used on the face and may treat various scars, wrinkles, and large pores.
  • You may need at least four procedures or more for the best results.
  • During the procedure, your clinical provider makes small pricks under the skin with a pen-like tool. The pinpricks are so small that you likely won’t notice them after the procedure. Your clinical provider will move the tool evenly across your skin so that the new skin that rejuvenates will be even, too.
  • Before getting started, your clinical provider will use a topical anaesthetic to reduce the chances of pain. This is done about 30-45mins before your treatment. Your clinical provider will then apply a serum or calming treatment.

Vampire Facial (or Microneedling with PRP)

Platelet-rich plasma injections

Also known as a vampire facial (you might have seen Kim Kardashian’s post on Instagram after she underwent this procedure), microneedling with PRP involves a microneedling treatment to target scars, wrinkles, age spots, acne and uneven skin tone, followed by injections of PRP.

Traditional microneedling is used to treat everything from age spots and wrinkles to scarring and other forms of hyperpigmentation. PRP injections may boost these effects and help you achieve your desired results faster. Using PRP alongside traditional microneedling treatments results in smoother, firmer skin. But as with other microneedling procedures, these results won’t last forever.

Microneedling is most often used on your face to target:

  • Acne scars
  • Age spots (also called “sun spots”)
  • Fine lines and wrinkles
  • Large pores
  • Other types of scars
  • Reduced skin elasticity
  • Uneven skin tone
Microneedling with PRP

What Is Platelet-rich Plasma (PRP)?

Although blood is mainly a liquid (called plasma), it also contains small solid components (red cells, white cells, and platelets.) The platelets are best known for their importance in clotting blood. However, platelets also contain hundreds of proteins called growth factors which are very important in the healing of injuries.

PRP is plasma with many more platelets than what is typically found in blood. The concentration of platelets — and, thereby, the concentration of growth factors — can be 5 to 10 times greater (or richer) than usual.

To develop a PRP preparation, blood must first be drawn from a patient. The platelets are separated from other blood cells and their concentration is increased during a process called centrifugation. Then the increased concentration of platelets is combined with the remaining blood.

Potential side effects and complications

Bruises and inflammation are the most common side effects. They typically appear immediately after the procedure and clear within four to five days. You’ll want to avoid sun exposure and harsh skin treatments during this time.

The good news is that PRP contains your own blood, so there’s little chance of cross-contamination or infection. Rare, but serious, complications include infection and scarring.

You may be able to extend the results of your treatment by:

  • Avoiding direct sun exposure
  • Wearing sunscreen every day
  • Cleansing your skin with a gentle cream or gel product only (exfoliants may irritate your skin after receiving this procedure)
  • Moisturizing your skin properly
  • Avoiding any picking or scratching of your face
