What Will Happen During Your Dental Hygienist Visit?

During your teeth cleaning appointment, our hygienist will evaluate your gums to look for any signs of periodontal disease and record any changes in the soft tissues of your mouth. Once this is done, any plaque and tartar will be carefully removed, followed by scaling and polishing your teeth.

Your dental hygienist will also discuss your use of toothbrushes, dental floss and inter-dental brushes as required to help you with your at-home care.

If you have any sensitive areas in your mouth, do discuss this with Amy so that you are comfortable throughout your appointment.

EMS Airflow® Technology

EMS Airflow® is an advanced cleaning system that uses a combination of air, water, and fine powder particles to remove biofilm, plaque, and stains from teeth and gums. It is much more comfortable and efficient than traditional scaling methods, making it a preferred choice for patients seeking a gentle yet thorough dental cleaning.

Key Features of EMS Airflow®

  • Minimally Invasive: The fine powder and controlled air/water spray gently clean the teeth and gum line without causing damage or discomfort to the gums or enamel.
  • Biofilm Removal: It is highly effective at removing biofilm (the layer of bacteria and debris that forms on teeth and gums) even in hard-to-reach areas like gum pockets and around dental implants.
  • Comfort: EMS Airflow® is a comfortable treatment option, avoiding the scraping sensation associated with traditional scaling.
  • Stain Removal: It effectively removes extrinsic stains caused by coffee, tea, tobacco, and wine, restoring teeth to their natural brightness without the need for harsh abrasives.aling.

Laser Therapy for Gum Pockets

Laser technology is increasingly being used to treat periodontal pockets (deep spaces between the teeth and gums that harbor bacteria and infection). Our soft tissue laser is used to disinfect the pockets and stimulate healing.

Benefits of Laser Therapy

  • Non-Surgical: Laser treatment for pockets is a non-surgical procedure, making it much less invasive than traditional periodontal surgery.
  • Precise and Targeted: Lasers target only the affected gum tissue, removing bacteria and promoting healing without harming surrounding healthy tissue.
  • Reduced Bleeding and Inflammation: Lasers help seal blood vessels as they treat, which minimizes bleeding, reduces swelling, and promotes faster healing.
  • Bacteria Reduction: Laser energy effectively kills bacteria that cause gum disease and reduces the depth of gum pockets, making it harder for bacteria to re-establish themselves.
  • Promotes Healing: Laser therapy can stimulate tissue regeneration, helping to close periodontal pockets and improve gum attachment to the teeth over time.

Comprehensive Approach to Oral Health

Using EMS Airflow® and laser therapy together provides a comprehensive, comfortable, and highly effective approach to oral hygiene.

  • Thorough Biofilm Removal: EMS Airflow® ensures complete removal of biofilm from the tooth surfaces and gum pockets.
  • Bacteria Reduction: Laser treatment disinfects deep periodontal pockets, targeting harmful bacteria that are difficult to reach with traditional cleaning methods.
  • Minimally Invasive: Both treatments are non-invasive and designed to minimize discomfort, making them ideal for patients with sensitive teeth or gums.
  • Prevention of Gum Disease: This combination is particularly effective for patients with periodontal disease or those at risk, as it thoroughly cleans and disinfects the gums, reducing inflammation and helping to prevent further progression.

Combining EMS Airflow® technology with laser therapy offers a gentle, thorough, and professional approach to dental hygiene and periodontal care. This combination effectively removes plaque, biofilm, and bacteria from both the teeth and gum pockets, promoting healthier gums and brighter teeth, all while ensuring patient comfort and reducing the risk of gum disease progression.
